Troilus and Cressida Theatre Show Information

Set during the siege of Troy, Shakespeare’s tragedy returns to the Stratford stage in 2018.

About Troilus and Cressida

Virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie collaborates with Artistic Director Gregory Doran on the RSC’s latest production of Shakespeare’s epic tragedy. The creative team is completed by designer Niki Turner with lighting by Matt Daw.

The Story

Troilus and Cressida swear they will always be true to one another. But in the seventh year of the siege of Troy their innocence is tested, and exposed to the savage corrupting influence of war, with tragic consequences.

History of Troilus and Cressida

One of Shakespeare’s more obscure plays, Troilus and Cressida was not performed during his lifetime and was rarely seen until the 20th century. The play was first performed at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, in the summer of 1960 and has returned to the Stratford stage several times since then. Famous names to have appeared in Troilus and Cressida down the years at Stratford include Anthony Quayle, Dorothy Tutin, Helen Mirren, John Nettles and Joseph Fiennes.
